Daiso Detergent (for makeup sponges and brushes) review

 http://www.starcosmetics.co.nz/img/p/355-1078-thickbox.jpg

Daiso is a great store to shop for inexpensive things. A S$2 store that originated from Japan, they sell all sorts of items like makeup, cutlery, clothes, toys, candles, gardening supplies, pet's supplies, stationery, cleaning goods and other knick-knacks. I believe that different countries would have different prices in their Daiso stores (In Japan it is 100 yen, in USA it is USD$1.50, in Canada it is CAD$2). Of course, for only S$2, the quality of items might be questionable, so buy at your own risk. But there are treasures to be found among the aisles, and one of them is the Daiso Detergent.

There are 2 types of Daiso Detergent, both in similar bottles with only a colour and name differentiation. One of them is the Daiso Detergent for Women (to help clean off menstrual discharge on underwear and clothes) and the other is the Daiso Detergent for makeup sponges and brushes, which is what this review is all about. So please be careful when buying it so that you won't end up with the wrong product. The one for women has a red tinge on the bottle, the one for makeup sponges has a blue tinge.

This detergent helps to remove makeup, bacteria and dirt on your makeup sponges or brushes or other tools. I find that it works very well, especially on makeup sponges. A few squirts on the sponge, and after being washed under running water, the sponge emerges, as clean as the day I bought it. On makeup brushes, I'm not sure about how safe it is on the bristles as I find that the bristles emerge a little more stiff after washing. According to some websites, it is recommended to wash the brushes with shampoo and conditioner afterwards. I've not done that before, so perhaps there lies my mistake.

This tiny bottle contains 80ml of product, which is quite a little amount (also, if you look carefully, the bottles are not actually filled to the top). However, for the cheap price and the unbelievable effectiveness, this is a fantastic product. What I hate is when they fly right off the shelves, as many girls have taken to buying as many as 6 bottles at one go. So sometimes I do go hunt for this bottle at Daiso, only to be told that it's out of stock.

*Daiso outlets can be found at Simei, Plaza Singapura, Vivocity, IMM, Sembawang Shopping Centre, Rivervale Mall, ION Orchard and Bukit Panjang Plaza. Please do not ask the staff "How much is everything?".

Schwarzkopf Ultimate Colour 499 Dark Cherry review

TDLR Review:  I would not recommend this hair colour product at all, because the shade turned out nothing like the box. Also it is difficult to wash off.  NOTE: I have dark Asian hair, which might be the reason why it's not suitable for this product. So I'm back with another hair dye review! I've raved about the Liese hair dyes before ( Cassis Berry , Sweet Apricot , Antique Rose ), because those are super easy to use (I've appreciated that even more after finding out how difficult some at-home hair dye kits can be to apply). But I got suckered into getting a box of Schwarzkopf Ultimate Colour hair dye, because the models on Schwarzkopf hair dye boxes always have gorgeous shades of hair! I've used Schwarzkopf before, I've bought the Palette in Magical Blue Black (no review, only a haul). But I was disappointed with it, because there was only a faint sheen of blue, and the black faded from my hair quite quickly. The trouble with Schwarzkopf also is...

Old Town White Coffee Ipoh Hor Fun review

Who doesn't like Old Town White Coffee? It's so nostalgic, from the furniture they have to the food they serve. It's really like a throwback to the simpler times in Singapore. According to Wikipedia, Old Town White Coffee is the largest kopitiam restaurant chain in Malaysia and has over 180 outlets in the region. Can you believe that? I love their kaya toast and of course, their Ipoh Hor Fun. Why go to Penang when you can just enjoy the Hor Fun here? Normally I get those Ipoh Hor Fun that is served in rich gravy, with not much soup. But this one is served in a clear broth, which is perfect for a light meal that is also filling. At the end of it, you won't feel too full or bloated like if you had something richer. The kway teow is served with generous helpings of prawns and chicken shreds every time I go there (my favourite outlet is Playground at East Coast Park, the area that used to be Big Splash. There are 8 outlets in Singapore at the moment, and they ar...

Intro Post

Despite the name, this blog is not about carousels or couture (although you never know, that might change?). Nobody likes to spend money on something, only to discover that it does not deliver what it has promised. I sure don't. So I start this blog with the hopes that perhaps it'll help someone find their holy grail. And maybe, I'll find my own on the way too. Expect to find beauty and skincare reviews, book reviews, movie reviews, and current obsessions. Oh, and a little couture here and there too.
